1.6.4 now available!
I’ve just released firmware 1.6.4 for the X2. It has one major update - making syncing to the X2 app more reliable.
The path to Firmware 2.0
I released this version because I’m now preparing to release a massive new update, firmware 2.0.
When I first released the X2 in 2018, it was using the FAT filesystem on its internal NOR flash memory. Unfortunately, FAT was not suitable and caused frequent log corruption. FAT was also extremely outdated, being developed in the 1980s. This was one of the main issues that caused syncing failures with the X2 phone app.
Unfortunately, it was difficult to replace as it was a major part of the system taking up about 11,000 lines of code.
It took a huge effort, but finally I’ve now moved the X2 to a more modern, reliable filesystem!
Sync logs before Firmware 2.0
Due to the change in filesystem, updating to 2.0 will ERASE all logs on the X2. So I recommend updating to 1.6.4 now and syncing as much data as you can, before installing 2.0.
New Features in 2.0
With the filesystem issue fixed, firmware 2.0 will have much awaited additions:
- up to 10 waypoints on device
- ability to change waypoints during the climb to altitude
- and more!
So please update to firmware 1.6.4 as soon as you can. I’ve also updated the X2 firmware update utility for MacOS, and it is now more reliable and doesn’t give unknown developer warnings. Send us an email at [email protected] for any issues.
